You could just whip stitch the pieces together with yarn needle and the same color yarn you are using. Lay flat, line the pieces up and put a stitch in each row. Or hold with wrong sides together and stitch through both pieces that way and lay flat when finished. The yarn should give a little. Weave the ends in and no one (but you) will know! Then you should be able to continue single crocheting the entire length.
