He's not distorting your beliefs. He's explaining what his beliefs are. I expect the "do not murder" rule only did apply to Jews. It certainly didn't stop the Jews committing genocide against the surrounding nations. The page in Luke doesn't apply to Jews who were the original recipients of the law.
