Where do we stand if the people whose house we are buying pull out?

Back in Feb we had an offer accepted on 'the house of our dreams' - the vendors told us they had already had an offer accepted on a 'chain-free' property, and gave us the impression that a completion date would happen quickly as there were no complications - Wrong! Turns out they had not even got a mortgage agreement..(cont below)
